Legendary British rock band Coldplay are expected to be honouring their late friend Shane Warne at their upcoming sold-out Australian shows, Daily Mail reports.
The iconic band will perform their first show of their Music of the Spheres tour in Melbourne on Wednesday night, and are rumoured to have a special tribute planned for Warne.
Singer Chris Martin, 47, is tipped to be performing his heartfelt ballad Song For Shane, which was written as a tribute to Warne after he died in March 2022, reports the Herald Sun.
Martin first performed the tribute song for Warne in Perth in November last year, when the band played a special one-off show in Western Australia.
‘Friends come, friends go, There are some people you’re lucky to know, If I could I’d do it all again, Thanks for everything, Shane,’ Martin serenaded the crowd during the heartfelt performance.
Warne’s daughter Summer, 23, attended the concert and later took to Instagram to thank the band for honouring her father,
‘The most amazing song dedicated to Dad. Thank you Chris, so beautiful,’ she wrote.
The ballad’s lyrics reveal how Martin first met Warne in an elevator and pays cheeky tribute to his love for smoking and fast food.
It follows Chris Martin performing a haunting rendition of Coldplay’s Yellow at Shane’s memorial service in March 2022.
Shane Warne died from natural causes while holidaying with friends on the Thailand island of Koh Samui on March 4, 2022.
The late leg spinner previously revealed that Chris turned to him when he has a ‘block in music writing’.
The pair had been close friends since meeting in a hotel elevator in 2001,
Martin even appeared in the movie Shane, the documentary released in January 2022 about the sporting legend’s life.
Meanwhile, a leaked Coldplay setlist has been circulating online, revealing the potential lineup of tracks that Martin and his bandmates—Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman, and Will Champion—might bring to their sold-out concerts Down Under.
Coldplay are expected to play their most beloved hits to the roaring crowd, including Yellow, Viva La Vida and Fix You.
