Oppenheimer continued its atomic charge toward Oscar glory by winning the marquee film prize at the Producers Guild Awards, which were handed out on Sunday tonight in Hollywood, Deadline reports.
Producer-director Christopher Nolan’s box office and awards-season juggernaut went home with the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures at the Ray Dolby Ballroom. Producers Emma Thomas and Charles Roven shared in the Producers Guild Awards.
The Producers Guild Awards win cemented Oppenheimer’s chances for Best Picture at the 96th Academy Awards on March 10. The Zanuck Award long has been considered a strong prognosticator for Best Picture, with 15 of the past 20 going on to triumph at the Academy Awards. Last year followed the trend as the Producers Guild Awards honored Everything Everywhere All at Once, which took the Oscar two weeks later.
