Popular Nigerian Politician and activist Omoyele Sowore has publicly denied the allegation that he solicited special treatment from the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin over his car impounded by the officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) for traffic violation.
The activist Omoyele Sowore while reacting to an allegation by SP Benjamin Hundeyin on Saturday 2nd September 2023, about his aides thronging into the inbox of the Lagos State Police Command PPRO to demand to know why the Police did not release the impounded vehicle, stated that he did not ask anyone to beg the Police for special treatment over the impounded car.
“I thank you, I never sent anyone to beg you or request any special treatment. You know better. Our position is that all citizens, without exception, remain equal before the law. Thank you!,” Sowore said.
Omoyele Sowore who confirmed that his car was truly impounded by the Police for a traffic violation, slightly took a dig at SP Benjamin Hundeyin, after he took to his official Twitter handle to report the incident, but failed to mention the name of the car owner or the “popular activist” whose car was impounded for a traffic violation.
Omoyele Sowore, took to his social media handle, to post a photo of some men believed to be Police or Lagos state Traffic officers, all in a joyous mood captioned the photos and a short video he posted saying:
“You don’t have to worry about mentioning my name, it is true that a car I use in Lagos was impounded by a transport task force in Lagos, I wasn’t in the car at the time, upon arrival to Lagos, I showed up at the Tow Pound in Oshodi, we reviewed the evidence and within five minutes my car was returned to me and I left. I appreciate the work being done by those men to sanitise the traffic situation in Lagos. I told them so, took pictures with them and left,” he captioned the photos.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, reacting to the post and captioned, also added:
“I am happy to see you disown the actions of those (overzealous) aides. I actually wondered too,” the Lagos State Police Command PRO add.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin had posted on his social media handle to which Sowore reacted. See the post:
“A car belonging to a very popular activist was impounded a few days back for traffic violation. Aides of the activist thronged my inbox demanding to know why we did not release the vehicle the moment the driver revealed the owner of the vehicle. They said his identity alone should get him off the hook. Many people want the general rules changed when it applies to them“.
