The Department of State Services (DSS) has confirmed that the suspended chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Abdulrasheed Bawa has been invited to their office to answer questions of allegations of corruption concerning him.
According to the statement released on Wednesday 14th June 2023, by Public Relations Officer Department of State Services National Headquarters Abuja, Peter Afunanya stated that Mr Abdulrasheed Bawa, arrived at their office a few hours ago.
Peter Afunanya added that the invitation relates to some investigative activities concerning him.
The arrest of Bawa by DSS comes a few hours after his suspension from office by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The statement announcing the suspension of the EFCC chairman was announced by Willie Bassey, Director, Information in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, reads:
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,GCFR, has approved the indefinite suspension from office of Mr. AbdulRasheed Bawa, CON, as the Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to allow for proper investigation into his conduct while in office.”
“This follows weighty allegations of abuse of office levelled against him.
Mr Bawa has been directed to immediately handover the affairs of his office to the Director, Operations in the Commission, who will oversee the affairs of the Office of the Chairman of the Commission pending the conclusion of the investigation,” the statement read.
