The High Court of Islamic Law in Kano State has sentenced Sheikh Abduljabar Nasiru Kabara to death by hanging, after he was found guilty of making immoral comments against the Prophet Muhammad, BBC Hausa reports.
According to the report, the decision was made on Thursday after Judge Ibrahim Sarki Yola said that he was found guilty of all the four crimes he was charged with.
Among the accusations against Sheikh Abduljabar Nasiru Kabara is the allegation of inciting riots in Kano state through his preaching.
After Sheikh Abduljabar Nasiru Kabara was found guilty of the crimes, Judge Sarki Yola adjourned the court session to allow him to write the sentence that will be given to the teacher.
After some time, the court session was resumed and the decision was made.
However, before the break, Sheikh Abduljabar Nasiru Kabara made his last speech where he said that he does not know the lawyer who is defending him and he is not asking for forgiveness because, according to him, he did not commit a crime and he asked for a speedy judgment.
Justice Sarki Yola said the teacher has 30 days to appeal if he is not satisfied with the decision.
On Friday, July 16, 2021, the Kano State government prosecuted the teacher in court on charges of blasphemy against religion and inciting the public, a charge he has repeatedly denied.

Justice Ibrahim Sarki Yola said the teacher “failed to defend this claim or claim he made with accepted evidence”.
One of the lawyers of the Kano government, Professor Mamman Lawan Yusufari, told BBC Hausa that they presented four witnesses to prove the crime they are accusing the teacher of.
In addition to the death sentence decided by the court, it also ordered the confiscation of all the books that Sheikh Abduljabbar presented to defend himself with them.
About 200 books were revealed, which the sheikh of the teacher used during the hearing held in July 2021 to defend his claim.
The court ordered that the books be handed over to the Kano State Central Library.
In addition, the court banned the publication of the teacher’s lecture in all state media, advising the government to take “all necessary measures” against those who violate the order.
Also, she ordered to close the two mosques of Abdul Jabbar.
