The results from the just concluded French Presidential election are out, with incumbent President, Emmanuel Macron winning by a narrow margin against Marine Le Pen.
President Emmanuel Macron was re-elected for a second five-year term having won 58% of the votes, as against 41.8% of the votes garnered by his far-Right rival Marine Le Pen in the second round of the French Presidential election.
According to the report by AFP, the victory by President Emmanuel Macron in the French Presidential election on Sunday, is less clear than in 2017.
In 2017, already opposed to the candidate of the National Rally (RN) in the second round, Emmanuel Macron had won with 66.10% of the vote for En Marche – 8.1 points more than today, the report added.
However, the president-candidate again benefited from multiple calls for votes in his favor at the end of the first round : Anne Hidalgo, Yannick Jadot, Valérie Pécresse clearly encouraged people to vote for him when Jean-Luc Mélenchon and Fabien Roussel urged their supporters to block the far right.
The re-election for Macron, as revealed by AFP, comes at the end of a complicated mandate, marked by the anger of the yellow vests, the mobilization against the pension reform, the Covid-19 and the multiple confinements and curfews imposed and , in the home stretch of the campaign, the invasion of Ukraine by Russia.
Emmanuel Macron also declared himself late, announcing his candidacy for the French presidential election only at the beginning of March , a little more than five weeks before the first round of the ballot.
“I am a candidate to invent with you, in the face of the challenges of the century, a singular French and European response”, he explained in a letter to the French published in the press.
He then waged a whirlwind campaign, with little travel and sporadic media interviews, and without prior debate with his 11 rivals.
During his first-round campaign, the President of the Republic notably made an impression with his desire to push back the legal retirement age to 65 or his proposal to condition the payment of the RSA on hours of activity for some recipients. At the same time, the candidate defended the idea of tripling the “Macron bonus” up to 6,000 euros , raising the minimum full-rate pension to 1,100 euros, or even eliminating the audiovisual license fee.
Arrived in the lead on April 10 with 27.85% of the vote , ahead of Marine Le Pen (23.15%) and Jean-Luc Mélenchon (21.95%), Emmanuel Macron had launched an appeal to the voters of his opponents , saying “ready to invent something new to bring together the various convictions and sensitivities to build with them a common action, at the service of our Nation, for the years to come”.
The president-candidate then changed his strategy for the between-two rounds, multiplying the trips on the ground, including in unfavorable lands, which gave rise to several sequences of confrontation with opponents.
