About 343 candidates or organisations have been nominated for the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize, including environmental activist Greta Thunberg and Belarusian opponent Svetlana Tikhanovskaïa.
The Norwegian Nobel Institute announced on Tuesday the list of 343 for the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize, as the nominations are more than last year (329) and is the second-highest since the record number of 376 registered in 2016. But these numbers are divided between 251 individuals and 92 organizations, the institute said.
The deadline for applications by the thousands of people entitled to submit one (parliamentarians and ministers from all countries, former winners, certain university professors, etc.) was January 31.
Neither the names of nominators nor of nominees for the Nobel Peace Prize may be divulged until 50 years have elapsed.
All living persons and active organizations or institutions are eligible candidates for the Nobel Peace Prize. What is considered a valid nomination is defined by the Nobel Foundation’s statutes. In order for a nomination to be valid, it must be submitted no later than January 31. Submissions shall preferably be made through an online form.

Although the Nobel Institute conceals the identity of the candidates, the sponsors can reveal the name of their foal. This year, we know that defenders of democracy in Burma have been proposed, the Belarusian opponent Svetlana Tikhanovskaïa, the pope or even figures of the climate and environmental cause such as the young Greta Thunberg.
