Fast rising Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi who goes by the stage name Tems, is celebrating the one year anniversary of her debut EP, For Broken Ears, as she thanked God and her fans for how far she has come since then.
Tems who blew everyone off with her debut EP and her unique voice and style, taking to her social media page on Saturday 25th September 2021, posted a cover of the EP For Broken Ears, which was a six-track EP, with a message for her rebel gang that reads:
“GANG. It’s one year of For Broken Ears today
Really Feels like ages ago, I cannot tell it allllllll what the Most High has done for me.
Turned me to a trail blazer
Though we are all mad, I have decided not to disguise anymore.
I didn’t realise just how far I have come till I left home. Nigeria does that to you. I pray we all see the power we have but we’re all too busy disguising.
No more. I enter the door with my full chest
If you are seeing this. Own your madness.
And let your light shine.
Thank you for the abundance of love.
I appreciate you GANG,” she said.
The singer who once described the For Broken Ears EP as her way of introducing herself to her listeners in an interview, said then that the EP is:
“Serves as an introduction to my sound as well as a cleansing of the heart for my listeners,” she said.
She continued:
“I want my listeners to have a better sense of who I am and also dig a little deeper into the true values of life.”
On What It Was Like Creating the EP For Broken Ears?
The singer who recently joined Rihanna on her SavageXFenty fashion show in New York, described the EP as:
“Each song represents different eras of my life. I’m the type who goes through different things. It’s a journey and all the songs represent different seasons of my life that I’ve experienced and I wanted to share that with my listeners or anyone going through anything and needs some type of hope, healing etc. “Interference” is like a welcome to my world; there’s love in it. There’s “Ice Tea”, which is about me trying to serenade someone saying I’ll turn whatever bitterness, sadness, anger that they have into something sweet. “The Key” embodies my take on life and just what my own philosophy is. It’s really about me, having gotten rid of my damages; this is the key to my life,” she had said then.
On How She Picked The Title, she had this to say:
“The project is for people that haven’t really had any music to help them heal or touch their spirit. People who just listen to dance and groove, and not to also replenish themselves. Doing all that is great but I just felt like I wanted to provide some kind of relief to anyone who’s listening, hoping it does a reset on their minds or heal them. That’s why it’s called “For Broken Ears.”
