The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson has condemned the racists attack towards some English black players, after their defeat to Italy in the just concluded Euro 2020 final. The Prime Minister condemned the discriminatory treatment of the England players which he called disturbing.

The racists attack were aimed at Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Bukayo Saka for failing to convert their spot-kick against Italy in Sunday’s Euro2020 final, which saw England losing to the Italians 3-2 on penalties.

The players’ social media comment sections were flooded with abhorrent slurs and monkey and banana emojis after the game.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson described the discrimination against the players as “disturbing and disturbing”.

“England players deserve to be called heroes but they should not be harassed in the media,” he said.

The Football Association said it was with the players and said it would take “severe action” against the perpetrators.

It cautioned that ‘abuse has real life consequences’ and urged social media companies to gather evidence leading to prosecution.

A spokesperson said: ‘The FA strongly condemns all forms of discrimination and is appalled by the online racism that has been aimed at some of our England players on social media.

‘We could not be clearer that anyone behind such disgusting behaviour is not welcome in following the team.

‘We will do all we can to support the players affected while urging the toughest punishments possible for anyone responsible.

‘We will continue to do everything we can to stamp discrimination out of the game, but we implore government to act quickly and bring in the appropriate legislation so this abuse has real life consequences.

‘Social media companies need to step up and take accountability and action to ban abusers from their platforms, gather evidence that can lead to prosecution and support making their platforms free from this type of abhorrent abuse.’

London police say they are investigating the incident. They said they would not tolerate this abuse.
