English Premier League side, Crystal Palace have announced the appointment of Patrick Vieira as their new manager, replacing Roy Hodgson.

Palace have offered Patrick Vieira the job after a long hiatus to replace Hodgson, who left the club on May 18.

The 45-year-old Frenchman who signed a three-year contract with the Eagles, while speaking on his new job, said:

“I am really excited to have this opportunity to return to the Premier League,” said Vieira

“It is a project that is really appealing to me, having spoken a lot with the chairman [Steve Parish] and sporting director [Dougie Freedman] about their ambition and plans for the whole club, including the academy.

“The club has fantastic foundations in place after many years in the Premier League, and I hope we can make further improvements and continue to drive the club forward.”

The former Arsenal captain has signed a three-year deal with Palace, who finished 14th at the bottom of the Premier League table.

In December, French club Nice fired Vieira from her coaching role.

He has since spent two seasons with the New York City American Football Association, having coached Manchester City’s youth team in 2011.

He reached New York City in the playoffs, finishing seventh and fifth in the French and Nice Championships in his two seasons.

Palace have held talks with former Borussia Dortmund boss Lucien Favre, who has since withdrawn from plans to replace the 73-year-old Hodgson who has resigned.

Former France international Patrick Vieira won a number of trophies during his nine seasons at Arsenal between 1996 and 2005.

The World Cup and European Championship winner with France helped Inter Milan to three Serie A titles.

Vieira moved to Manchester City in January 2010, winning the FA Cup in 2011 and then announcing his retirement.
