National Assembly Members Meet Okowa Over Constitution

Governor Okowa of Delta State, on Thursday 3rd June 2021, received some National Assembly members on the Review of the 1999 Constitution led by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Ahmed Idris Wase at the Government House, Asaba.

The visit by the National Assembly members led by Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase, is coming as its begins the zonal public hearings on the review of the 1999 constitution across the country’s six geopolitical zones.

The committee had invited the general public, executive and judicial bodies, traditional institutions, political parties, civil society organisations, professional bodies and all other ‘stakeholders’ on the review.

The constitution review will see each zone having two centres. That of the South-South in which Delta state belongs comprises of Delta, Bayelsa and Edo States. The hearing will hold in Asaba centre on June 2 and June 3, while Uyo centre will hold on June 1 and June 2, with Akwa Ibom, Rivers and Cross River States.”

Governor Okowa while receiving the National Assembly members, emphasized the need for the National Assembly to review the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission proposal to ensure conformity with the changing realities in the nation.

“I want to thank the National Assembly for the opportunity given to Nigerians to make their contributions through the Constitutional Amendment process — and hope that the recommendations made will be adopted,” he said.

Mr Wase appealed to members of the committee “to always put Nigeria first and work for Nigeria to ensure it delivered for the country the best constitution”.
