The CEO of Twitter, Jack has explained why they have chosen Ghana for the location of Twitter Africa Head office, as mixed reactions trail the choice of the social media giant.
Twitter founder Jack Dorsey who on Monday confirmed in a tweet on his official handle on Monday 12th April 2021, that they are about siting Twitter Africa head office in Ghana, gave reasons for their choice of Ghana.
The statement released by the social media group stated reasons they have decided to site the Twitter Africa head office in Ghana, and it all has to do with freedom of expression both on and off social media.
Twitter are saying that, unlike these other countries, Ghana has championed democracy, and they are also a supporter of free speech, online freedom, and the Open Internet, of which Twitter is also an advocate.
Twitter also praised the Government of Ghana, where they said:
“Furthermore, Ghana’s recent appointment to host The Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area aligns with our overarching goal to establish a presence in the region that will support our efforts to improve and tailor our service across Africa.
Whenever we enter new markets, we work hard to ensure that we are not just investing in the talent that we hire, but also investing in local communities and the social fabric that supports them,” the statement said.
