Lil Nas X has revealed to millions of his social media fans, that he is upset about a court rule on his controversial ‘Satan Shoes’ which production and sales were halted over Nike trademark infringement.
Lil Nas X who said he has never been upset in a long while, had released his “Montero (Call Me By Your Name) single which included a very unusual music video. There, Nas X was seen twerking on Satan. Then, on March 29, he released his Nike Air Max 97 “Satan Shoes.” 666 of these were available as they retailed for $1,018. They came in an all-black and red colour-way with human blood to be seen at the bottom of the soles. A Luke 10:18 verse was also seen in addition to a satanic symbol on top.
Nike ended up filing a trademark infringement lawsuit against MSCHF, the partner of Nas X who helped create these shoes. The iconic sportswear brand was also able to get a judge to halt sales on these shoes on Thursday, according to TMZ. This is part of a temporary restraining order that a judge granted Nike. From this point on, no further orders can be fulfilled regarding the Satan Shoes. MSCHF ended up asking “Who is Nike to censor one but not the other?”
The singer had tweeted this on Thursday saying:
“I haven’t been upset until today, i feel like it’s f*cked up they have so much power they can get shoes cancelled. freedom of expression gone out the window. but that’s gonna change soon.”
When the Nike Air Max 97 “Satan Shoes” were available for purchase on Monday, many critics quickly bashed Nike for supposedly partnering with Nas X and MSCHF on these controversial shoes.
They quickly sold out in less than a minute as well. Nike ended up issuing a statement explaining that they had no involvement in the creation of the Satan Shoes.
“Nike filed a trademark infringement and dilution complaint against MSCHF today related to the Satan Shoes,” Nike said to CBS News in a statement on Thursday. “We don’t have any further details to share on pending legal matters. However, we can tell you we do not have a relationship with Lil Nas X or MSCHF. The Satan Shoes were produced without Nike’s approval or authorization, and Nike is in no way connected with this project.”
