The Federal Government of Nigeria has assured Nigerians that the AstraZeneca Vaccine is safe, and that President Muhammadu Buhari and his Vice, Prof. Osinbajo who took their first Jabs on Saturday, are doing fine.

The Presidency said this in a statement released on Sunday 7th March 2021, by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu. He said, contrary to widespread rumour, President Buhari and Osinbajo after taking the AstraZeneca Vaccine, felt normal and have gone about doing their job. He sais, “If there are side effects that follow, we will be open about that but so far there is nothing of a side effect, serious or mild,” he said.

Both President Buhari and Osinbajo were administered their first jab of the COVID-19 vaccine on Saturday, after Nigeria kicked off her nationwide vaccination on Friday with the health workers on the frontline.

Garba Shehu in responding to press enquiries on the safety of the vaccine, said AstraZeneca Vaccine is safe and would want to “assure all citizens, and to dispel fears and misconceptions about the safety of the vaccine administered on President Muhammadu Buhari and the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, SAN earlier this morning.

After he got his jab, the President felt normal and went about doing his job. If there are side effects that follow, we will be open about that but so far there is nothing of a side effect, serious or mild on the President. He is carrying on as normal.

We hope this will help to send a strong message among the people, especially those grappling with hesitancy about the efficacy and safety of the vaccine,” he added.
