A kidnap attempt of a minor has been foiled by Police in Anambra state. This was reported by the Anambra State Police Command on Tuesday.

According to the statement released by the Police on Tuesday, the kidnap attempt was foiled after a distress call was received by the Police on 28/2/2021 at about 9:30:pm at Okpunoeze Uruagu, Nnewi.

The Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Command, CSP Haruna Mohammed, who issued the statement, said a man under the false pretence of being an okada rider who was later identified as a 25-year-old IIkechukwu Odoh of Ehamifu in Isuzo LGA of Enugu State allegedly went into a compound and attempted to snatch a four-month-old baby named Success Odeh from her mother.

Meanwhile, the mother resisted the kidnap attempt and screamed for help which attracted the attention of the neighbours who in conjunction with local vigilante assisted the police in arresting the suspect.

The case is under investigation to ascertain the motive behind such an act after which the suspect will be brought to justice, the Police said.

The Commissioner of Police CP Monday Bala Kuryas enjoined the public to be wary of strangers or suspicious movements in their neighbourhood and always monitor their children in order to avert similar incident, please.
