Taylor Swift has responded to joke made on Netflix series, Ginny And Georgia where sexist remarks were made about her dating history.
Taylor Swift who condemned the remarks shortly after fans dragged the show Ginny And Georgia after an episode included a sexist joke about her, said it was a ‘lady’ joke.
All the condemnation is coming after in the final episode of the first series, teenager Ginny Miller (Antonia Gentry) and her mother Georgia (Brianne Howey) are arguing about her relationships.
During the row, Georgia assumes Ginny has broken up with her boyfriend, Hunter, to which Ginny retorts: “What do you care? You go through men faster than Taylor Swift.”
Taking to her social media, Taylor said:
“Hey Ginny & Georgia, 2010 called and it wants its lazy, deeply sexist joke back. How about we stop degrading hard working women by defining this horse s*** as FuNnY. Also, @netflix, after Miss Americana this outfit doesn’t look cute on you… Happy Women’s History Month I guess,” she tweeted.
Taylor in her Netflix documentary titled ‘Miss Americana’ had touched on such topics, as the film includes several moments where Swift discusses the sexism and press scrutiny she has been forced to endure throughout her career.
Swift has addressed how the media discusses her relationships and her art on a number of occasions in the past.
Speaking to Maxim in 2015, she pointed out that a man writing about his feelings might be deemed “brave”, while a woman doing the same was “oversharing”.
In an interview with Australian radio station 2DayFM the previous year, she hit back at the claim that she only writes songs about her ex-partners.
“No-one says that about Ed Sheeran. No-one says that about Bruno Mars,” she said. “Frankly, that is a very sexist angle to take.”
She added: “I have a really strict personal policy that I never name names. So anybody saying that a song is about a specific person is purely speculating.”
While her fans have all come to her defence, calling it racism, others have questioned Taylor and her fans for taking such joke too serious, as they are a whole lot of other issues in the series they ought to be calling they cast and scriptwriter and even Netflix out for and they have failed to do so.
“yall ignore all the racism in ginny and georgia but draw the line at a white women getting slandered and then u hate on the WOC actress by calling her a bitch etc ? please go to hell” one fan said.
