5% Content Levy: Falz Blasts Lagos State Censors Board

Popular rapper and actor, Folarin Falana who is known better as Falz or Falz TheBahdguy, has reacted to the alleged 5% content levy slammed on entertainers residing in Lagos State, by the Lagos State Film and Video Censors Board.

Although we cannot substantiate the content of the alleged letter from the Lagos State Film and Video Censors Board which has been circulating online, but Falz frowned at the move, calling the move by the Lagos State Government, a joke.

Taking to his official social media handle on Friday 4th September 2020, Falz posted a copy of the alleged letter from the Lagos State Film And Video Censors Board which was served to a popular online media, with a caption that reads:

“What is this joke?!” he asked.

Since he made the post, some other celebrities following his social media handle, have been reacting, and just like Falz, those that have commented on the news, have all condemned the 5% content levy on activities online.

The content of the alleged letter as seen on the official Instagram handle of Mr Folarin, has a heading that reads:

“Implementation of 5% Levy On All Audio And visual Content On All Physical And Digital Platform”

The content of the alleged notice which was signed by the Executive Secretary of Lagos State Film And Video Censors Board, Mr Bamidele Balogun, reads:

5% Content Levy: Falz Blasts Lagos State Censors Board

We hereby request for immediate payment of the 5% levy on all audio and visual content produced, sold, distributed, marketed, exhibited, streamed, downloaded and shared across all physical and digital platform situates, lying and being within Lagos State.

A copy of the public notice earlier issued in this regard is herein attached. By this letter, you have been served notice as a necessary procedure and you are obliged to comply within seven days from the date of receipt of this notification.

Attached to this letter is a Direct Debit Mandate Form. You are requested to fill the attached form and return to the undersigned,” the letter said.
