President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed concern about the sudden hike in prices of food.

The President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday, said the President was assuring Nigerians that the federal government has already begun looking and putting in place measures to ameliorate the situation.

The president has approved the release of food items from the strategic reserves, including 30,000 tons of maize to animal feeds producers to ease the high cost of poultry production, the statement read.

It added that key government agencies and policymakers with the responsibility and visibility on market activities remain focused on removing structural impediments to production and free movement of agricultural products.

It said Nigerians have already suffered economic losses owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, and that the federal government would do all in its power to ensure that succour was achieved promptly.
