Bukayo Saka of Arsenal and Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham, Reece James and Declan Rice of West Ham and Dwight McNeil of Burnely were all left out of the shortlist for the inaugural TAG Heuer Young Player of the Season Award. 

These names were left out of the shortlist, despite having a fantastic season individually, especially that of Arsenal winger, Bukayo Saka.

While the likes of Bukayo Saka and others mentioned above missed out in The young player award shortlist, the likes of Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial, all from Manchester United were named on the shortlist. 

Martial will turn 25 later this year but was still included. The Frenchman scored 17 league goals this season, with Rashford matching that tally. Greenwood, meanwhile, found the net on ten occasions. While Chelsea man, Tammy Abraham scored 15 Premier League goals and was till missing in the list. 

The award, which is for players who were aged 23 or under at the start of the 2019-20 season, will be voted for by fans.

Young Player award shortlist are: 

Trent Alexander-Arnold (age 21) – Liverpool

Jack Grealish (age 24) – Aston Villa

Mason Greenwood (age 18) – Manchester United

Dean Henderson (age 23) – Sheffield United

Anthony Martial (age 24) – Manchester United

Mason Mount (age 21) – Chelsea

Christian Pulisic (age 21) – Chelsea

Marcus Rashford (age 22) – Manchester United
