Nigerian singer Yemi Alade has joined other celebrities around the world to celebrate with one of Africa’s best talents, and Grammy winner, Angélique Kidjo who turns 60 today.
Yemi Alade taking to her social media account to celebrate the Wombo Lombo crooner, and the woman she did ‘Shekere’ with, shared the photo where the two were all smiles, as she is photographed hugging Angélique Kidjo from the back. She captioned the photo with:
“Happy birthday Mama Africa. You make 60 look like 20years. All rules and above all Odds!,” she said.
Yemi Alade and four-time Grammy winner, Angelique Kidjo collaborated on one of her songs in her latest alum, Woman of Steel. The song was titled ‘Shekere’.
The song is named after the tambourine-like instrument played in various regions of the continent. Both Alade and Kidjo deliver feel-good lyrics in English and Yoruba over the song’s string-filled production. The upbeat song also includes interpolations of Kidjo’s 1996 classic “Wombo Lombo,”.
The music video was shot in Kenya as according to them it is a colourful celebration of the Africa continent.
