The purported arrest of a popular Dubai based Nigerian ‘Big Boy,’ Mr Raymond Igbalodely known also as Hushpuppi, has been generating a lot of reactions from Nigerians and non-Nigerians alike since the rumour started spreading last night.

The news of his alleged arrest is also one of the top trends on the Nigerian Twitter street, as mixed reactions trail the alleged arrest.

The words on the Nigerian social media streets, suggest that Hushpuppi and his friend, one Mr Woodbery and others were on Tuesday allegedly picked up by Interpol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in Dubai on allegation of fraud running into hundreds of millions of dollars.

Although we cannot substantiate the story, there seems to be an unverified video that has gone viral online showing a lady newscaster breaking the news of the purported arrest of Hushpuppi and his friends by Interpol/FBI at their base in Dubai.

The unverified news video surfaced online Wednesday morning claiming that the Nigerian big boys were allegedly surrounded by the International police and FBI on the grounds of being fraud suspects.

Since the news broke, and a little research on the websites and official social media handles of FBI, Interpol and the Economic And Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC), no official statement or post showing a confirmation of such arrests. But our team are monitoring the situation to know when these anti-corruption/anti-cybercrime agencies make official statements as to this latest development.

Why there has not been an official statement confirming the purported arrest of Hushpuppi and his friends by the Interpol/FBI, there have been reactions on social media. Although Hushpuppi claims to be a real estate investor, these comments from social media especially on the Twitter App so far, shows Nigerians are not buying into the ‘Real Estate’ investor title. See some of the comments:

One twitter user has this to say about the alleged arrest:

@SecretaryAce: Hushpuppi shaded the likes of Phyno and Ice Prince for cutting their coat according to their size. Now he has been arrested by Interpol for fraud. Let him explain how he made his wealth from real estate. Live your legit life and do your best. God will not shame us,” he said.

Another also has this to say:

@MrOdanz: “Today is just one of those days that Nigerians will frown at fraud, ramble about how fraud is evil. But deep down they’ve always wished to have Hushpuppi’s money, they admire Diezani, Mompha and other fraudsters. But let’s act all saintly today and condemn fraud and corruption”.

@UgwunnaEjikem: One of the most amusing things about this Hushpuppi saga are his IG captions & quotes talmbout; “God shame those waiting for me to be shamed” “E pain them” “Thank you God for the many blessings” “I wear people’s mortgage” Alaye ontop fraud? Ontop frauddd?”

@aproko_doctor: “I’m happy that Hushpuppi has been caught. Alot of young people wanted his levels OF questionable wealth, at least now they know there are consequences Did you think his money was legit? If you do, I have one cream to sell to you that enlarges your pinis with one single rub”

While some were having a serious discussion on the alleged arrest, others were having fun. Here are some of the hilarious tweets reacting to the arrest:

@DREYLOfr: Don’t rush into conclusions about things you don’t know. As hushpuppi is into real estate, maybe interpol just want to show him a room they want to Cell.”

@Nappyblaze: So Interpol arrested Hushpuppi in Dubai for fraud but MTN is still giving us 6GB that lasts for just 2 days. EFCC weldone!

@vhic_tor: Hushpuppi was arrested and $50 gift cards boys are shouting wakajeje. Please play me kelegbe megbe by Adekunle Gold.

@Anambravirgin
Don’t jump into conclusion about hushpuppi’s arrest.. Shebi he’s into real estate? Maybe Interpol wants to show him the room to his cell estate”
