The Federal Government is to begin sealing non-fire safety and disaster-prone buildings across the country.
Minister of Interior, Mr Rauf Aregbesola made this known at the inauguration of 10 fire fighting vehicles at the Federal Fire Service headquarters in Abuja.
The Minister who charged the Federal Fire Service to intensify its effort in building inspection and certification expressed concern over the number of major disaster-prone buildings without hydrants, assembly points and emergency exit route.
“I will at this juncture urge the new Zonal Offices and Training Schools where these firefighting trucks would be deployed, to reciprocate the Federal Government gesture, to optimise and effectively use these assets to improve fire cover, enhance emergency response operations, and complement State Fire Services operations while enhancing fire safety across the country”, the Minister said.
Controller General (CG), Federal Fire Service, Dr Liman Ibrahim who expressed delight over government’s commitment to boost the fire fighting assets of the service pledged to deploy the trucks to 7 States which are; Nasarawa, Kaduna, Kwara, Oyo, Edo, Bayelsa and Anambra to mitigate fire disasters.
The CG assured Nigerians of a better and quicker response to distress calls.
