Burna Adds His Powerful Voice To Condemn Rape, Racial Injustice

Popular Afrobeat singer, songwriter, multiple award winner and one-time Grammy nominee, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu known better as Burna Boy, has joined other Nigerians and celebrities alike in the world to condemn the constant rape cases in Nigeria, and the racial injustice in America and around the world.

Burna Boy who is speaking for the first time in a long while, joined the various social media trending hashtags posting a black picture on his Instagram account, with a captioned expressing his stand on the issue of rape, and racial injustice in America. 

Taking to his Instagram account, he kicked off his conversation with the recently reported rape cases, murder and killings by the police in Nigeria, before touching on the ongoing protest in America over the killing of yet another black man by the police, where he called for a stop in racial abuse. He said:

“Rape and racial injustice are crimes against humanity, they are vicious, insidious and violent acts that no human should commit or commend.

The stance on rape should be linear and final, there should be no grey areas, no “buts”, only that the perpetrator(s) of the act is to blame and the victim completely blameless” he said.

The self-proclaimed ‘African Giant’, who has some lovely women in his life, as mother, sisters, girlfriend and band members and friends, also used the opportunity to educate men on the issue of rape, and the right of every woman/ladies/girls as human beings; while also touching on the topic, ‘consent’. 

“From now on, men and women alike need to be educated. Men need to be taught the concept of consent, we need to teach them empathy and compassion. We need to teach men that a woman’s body is hers and hers alone. We need to end stigmatisation and victimization of rape victims, it must STOP”, he added.

On the issue of racial injustice in America and around the world, send a strong message to non-blacks, saying:

“Black people deserve and require more than we’re currently getting! I implore you all to get involved, no contribution is too small, no platform is too small #nojusticenopeace#justiceforgeorgefloyd #justiceforuwa#stoprapeculture #justicefortina #stoppolicebrutality #blackouttuesday”, he said.

Burna Boy’s message is coming after the sad news of the killing of an African-American man named George Floyd, by a Minneapolis police officer, cum the killing of Tina, a 16-year-old girl, at Iyana Oworo area of Lagos, by a suspected officer of the Nigerian police and the rape and murder case of 22-year-old 100level student of the University of UNIBEN, Omozuwa inside a church in Benin, and many others not reported.
