American comedian and actress, Amy Schumer has changed the name of her baby, as she told fans that she accidentally named him “Genital” while trying to pay tribute to her longtime friend, Dave Attell.

The comedian admitting it was an oversight, as she and her husband Fischer later realised they gave their first-born son a moniker that sounded like genital.

Last year, Schumer and husband Chris Fischer welcomed their son, Gene, and named his middle name Attell, after the legendary comedian who has become a huge inspiration and mentor in Schumer’s personal life and professional career.

38-year-old Schumer was recently on her podcast, “3 Girls, 1 Keith,” with co-hosts Rachel Feinstein, Bridget Everett and Keith Robinson, according to PageSix.

“Do you guys know that Gene, our baby’s name, is officially changed?” Schumer quipped.

She added, “It’s now Gene David Fischer. It was Gene Attell Fischer, but we realized that we, by accident, named our son ‘Genital.'”

Schumer also revealed that she ran the name amendment by Dave Attell, who was obviously ok with the switch. Baby Gene now also shares a name with Schumer’s father, Gordon Schumer, who also has the middle name of David.

Back in May 2019, Schumer announced she had given birth to baby Gene.

“Gene Attell Fischer And his dad Chris,” the comedian wrote alongside a photo of the two.

Attell is obviously a shout out to Schumer’s longtime mentor and friend, comedian Dave Attell … and it appears Gene was a nod to the late great comedian Gene Wilder.

Tons of stars immediately commented on how adorable the baby is, including Glenn Close, Andy Cohen and Cindy Crawford, who said, “Better than the Met Ball! Congrats!”

However, some fans on Schumer’s feed began questioning whether the comedian was pranking everyone with a name that kinda sounds like an injury to a very sensitive area on the human body.

“It sounds like genital fissure,” one follower noted, while another wrote, “Uh, am I the only one who thinks Gene-attell is going to be turned into Genital??”
