President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the cessation of all movements in Lagos, Ogun and Abuja the Federal Capital Territory, in order to slow down the rapid spread of the coronavirus, with the total figure in Nigeria as at Sunday 29th 2020, put at 111.

President Buhari declared the cessation of movements while speaking in a nationwide broadcast to Nigerians on Sunday on the coronavirus pandemic.

He said, “We are therefore working to ensure such interstate and intercity movements are restricted to prevent further spread.

“Based on the advice of the Federal Ministry of Health and the NCDC, I am directing the cessation of all movements in Lagos and the FCT for an initial period of 14 days with effect from 11pm on Monday, 30th March 2020. 

According to the President, This restriction will also apply to Ogun State due to its close proximity to Lagos and the high traffic between the two States.

He urged all citizens in these areas to stay in their homes.

President Buhari exempted essential workers such as hospital/health workers, Journalist and Nepa staffs.

“Workers in telecommunication companies, broadcasters, print and electronic media staff who can prove they are unable to work from home are exempted.”

He added that commercial establishments such as food processing, distribution and retail companies, petroleum distribution and retail entities, power generation, transmission and distribution companies as well as private security companies we’re also exempted, but access would be restricted and monitored.
