Zaya Wade who is the daughter to NBA legend, Dwayne Wade, on Saturday made her first red-carpet debut, a few weeks after coming out publicly to identify as a transgender. Her first public appearance was made at the 6th annual Truth Awards in Los Angeles on Saturday 7th March 2020.
Zaya Wade who is one of the youngest transgender was accompanied to the award ceremony by her proud father Dwyane Wade, and stepmother, actress Gabrielle Union, looking all stylish.
Wade who has been vocal about her daughter’s decision to go from being a boy to a girl, took to his Instagram account on Sunday to share some photos from the award ceremony. He shared a photo where Zaya Wade was spotting a custom Richfresh suit, with a bright green suit jacket and button-down with flared black dress pants and a hot pink diagonal stripe detail to match.
She carried a hot pink clutch and accessorized with rings and a necklace.
On his part, Wade and his wife wore coordinating black and white suits with hot pink and green tops underneath.
He captioned the photos with these words:
“Everyone allows her to re-introduce herself, her name is Zaya Wade!”
“Last night was Zaya’s first red carpet and we couldn’t have been prouder of how she handled the questions that were asked of her. She has emerged as one of the young faces and voices for the LGBTQ+ community,” he wrote
The Truth Awards were created to highlight the achievements and cultural contributions of the black LGBTQ community and its allies. It provides funding for scholarships that support educational opportunities for youth in the LGBTQ community.
