Ganduje Appoints Aminu Ado Bayero As New Emir Of Kano

The Governor of Kano State, Governor Ganduje has appointed the Emir of Bichi Aminu Ado Bayero as the new Emir of Kano, replacing former Emir Muhammadu Sanusi, who was dethroned on Monday 9th March 2020.

In a statement released a few hours ago by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Kano State, Abba Anwar, said Aminu Ado Bayero, the Emir of Bichi and the son of the late Emir Ado Bayero, has emerged as the new Kano Emir.

He said this was officially announced in the presence of the Kano Emirate kingmaker and other stakeholders at Ante Chamber, Government House, Kano.

Aminu Ado Bayero, a Mass Communication graduate of Bayero University, Kano, was first appointed as district head of Nasarawa in 1990 by his late father. He was named the emir of Bichi in 2019 after Kano State governor Umaru Ganduje divided the Kano Emirate into four.

Before being named the emir of Bichi, Ado Bayero was named district head of Nassarawa and Dan Maje Kano in 1990 by his late father Ado Bayero. He was later promoted to Dan Buran Kano and then named Turakin Kano.

Ado Bayero was also Sarkin Dawakin Sakarin Gida Kano before elevated to Wamban Kano and then named emir of Bichi.

The appointment of Aminu Ado Bayero as the new Emir of Kano came on Monday immediately after the sacking of Sanusi for allegedly disrespecting the Governor and other lawful authorities.

Abba Anwar in the statement released, stated that Emir Sanusi Mohammadu Sanusi was dethroned on the premise of the:

“total disrespect to lawful instructions from the office of the State Governor and other lawful authorities, including his persistent refusal to attend official meetings and programmes organized by the Government without any lawful justification which amount to total insubordination,” the Secretary to the Kano State Government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji, among others, was why Kano Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, is dethroned by the state government.

At a Council meeting, SSG said, in the presence of the Governor, His Deputy and all other Council members, that “The Kano State Executive Council under the Chairmanship of His Excellency the Governor of Kano State Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje OFR, has unanimously approved the immediate removal/dethronement of the Emir of Kano Emirate Muhammad Sanusi II.”

He further explained that, “It is on record and in so many instances Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II has been found breaching Part 3 Section 13 (a – e) of the Kano State Emirate Law 2019 and which if left unchecked will destroy the good and established image of the Kano Emirate.”

The removal, he disclosed, was made after due consultation with the relevant stakeholders and in compliance with Part 3 Section 13 of the Kano State Emirate Law 2019 among others.

Adding that the removal was done to safeguard the sanctity, culture, tradition and prestige of the Kano Emirate built over a thousand years. “His Excellency Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje OFR calls on the general public to remain calm, law-abiding and to go about their normal businesses. While a new Emir of Kano Emirate will soon be appointed, ” he had said.
