The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege has condemned in strong terms, the killings in Delta Communities, where eight persons where allegedly killed in Uwheru Kingdom in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yomi Odunuga, on Sunday 16th February 2020, while condemning the killings in Delta Communities, also called on the Nigeria Police to immediately bring the perpetrators to book, saying:
“The attacks on Avwon, Agadama, Ohoror and other communities of Uwheru Kingdom, is one too many,” he said.
Senator Omo-Agege further added that:
“I call on security agencies to bring the perpetrators to book by ensuring that they face the wrath of the law. “I assure the people of Uwheru Kingdom that this matter will not be swept under the carpet and that the full weight of the law will brought on those found culpable”.
The statement by Senator Omo-Agege is also coming a day after Governor Ifeanyi Okowa condemned the alleged killings in Delta Communities, where he warned that, “the Delta State Government will not tolerate the unwarranted attacks on and killings of our innocent citizens in Avwon, Agadama and Ohoror communities of Uwheru Kingdom in Ughelli North LGA.
This despicable act, which was allegedly committed by suspected criminal herdsmen who were aided and abetted by unidentified individuals in military attire must be promptly investigated by our security operatives,” he said.
Governor Okowa in his statement, made it clear that Delta State is and has been receptive to herdsmen and other visitors, however, the hospitality and welcoming disposition of the people of Delta State must not be mistaken for cowardice.
“The state government will continue to encourage peaceful and harmonious relations between Deltans and our visitors, however, we will not sit back idly as outsiders attack our people.
This is why, in-line with my Constitutionally delineated powers as the Chief Security Officer of our State, I have directed the Commissioner of Police and the Brigade Commander, 63 Brigade, Nigerian Army, to act swiftly to bring the culprits to justice.
It is my fervent prayer that the families and communities that have been affected by this senseless violence remain calm at this trying time — as we allow our security agencies to work towards finding the attackers and maintaining peace across our state,” he added.
