British Royal couple of Peter Philips and his wife Autumn Philips have announced their divorce after almost 12-years of marriage. The eldest grandson to Queen Elizabeth on Tuesday announced his separation from his wife Autumn.
According to the report by UK Evening Standard, Peter Philips and Autumn who married in 2008, released a statement on Tuesday morning confirming the split, which they described as “sad, but amicable”.
In the statement, they said the decision came after many months of discussion and was “the best course of action for their two children and ongoing friendship”.
The couple, who informed the Queen and their families of the decision last year, are in the process of divorce, and will share custody of their two daughters, Savannah and Isla.
The statement said: “After informing HM The Queen and members of both families last year, Peter and Autumn jointly agreed to separate.
“They had reached the conclusion that this was the best course of action for their two children and ongoing friendship.
“The decision to divorce and share custody came about after many months of discussions and although sad, is an amicable one.”
Canadian-born Autumn will not return to her home country but will remain in Gloucestershire where they will co-parent nine-year-old Savannah and seven-year-old Isla.
The statement added: “The couple’s first priority will remain the continued well being and upbringing of their wonderful daughters Savannah and Isla.
“Both families were naturally sad at the announcement but fully supportive of Peter and Autumn in the joint decision to co-parent their children.
“Both Peter and Autumn have remained in Gloucestershire to bring up their two children where they have been settled for a number of years.”
The couple, who tied the knot at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, in 2008, requested “privacy and compassion” for their children while the family continues to adapt to the changes.
The monarch was said to be “upset” by news of the split, first reported by the Sun, which comes after a turbulent few months for the royals, including Prince Andrew’s decision to step away from royal duties amid the Jeffrey Epstein scandal and Prince Harry and Meghan’s departure to Canada last month.
