Jelani Maraj who is the brother to rapper Nicki Minaj, has been sentenced to 25-years to life in prison, after he was found guilty of child rape by a New York Court on Monday.
According to the report by TMZ, Jelani Maraj was sentenced by Judge Robert McDonaldin a New York court on Monday 27th January 2020, which is several months after the verdict was reached.
Although no words yet from Nicki Minaj herself, the news is certainly not a great one for the family. It comes after Jelani Marajwas found guilty of predatory sexual assault against a child and endangering the welfare of a child in a trial that lasted less than 3 weeks, the report added.
At the time of the verdict, the Nassau County D.A. told TMZ, “We hope that today’s verdict will help the family in the healing process.”
Back in 2017, Nicki visited her brother while he was locked up. We were told she only went to support her mother.
Nicki never testified during the trial despite claims made by her brother’s defence team that she would.
Jelani Maraj was reported to have raped his 11-year-old former stepdaughter. The victim has said that Mr Maraj would sometimes assault her up to four times a day. The victim’s younger brother also testified that he caught Maraj in the act and saw his sister’s underpants around her ankles.
Maraj’s defence attorney David Schwartz had in 2017 said the accusations were part of an elaborate attempt to extort money from Maraj’s famous sister.
