The Speaker of U.S House of Reps, Nancy Pelosi just a few days after spearheading the impeachment of the President of the United States at the House, has written to the President Donald Trump inviting him to come and deliver the state of the Union address slated for February 4th 2010.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi in writing President Trump on the State of the Union address said:
“In the spirit of respecting our Constitution, I invite you to deliver your State of the Union address before a joint session of Congress on Tuesday, February 4, 2020, in the Chamber of the U.S. House of Representatives,” she said.
Although the House is yet to send their impeachment notice to the Senate, which is the next step in the impeachment proceedings of President Donald Trump. Given how they House Republicans voted at the House, it is highly unlikely that the Senate will not favour President Donald Trump. The Republicans control a majority in the Senate, it is expected of them to support and defend Trump during the impeachment votes next year. It is clear that he will survive the impeachment.
Trump’s most recent State of the Union address attracted attention after it became a point of contention in negotiations related to the partial government shutdown.
In mid-January, Pelosi asked Trump to postpone the address or deliver it in writing, citing security concerns. Trump responded by cancelling Pelosi’s use of a military vehicle for an overseas trip, but he eventually acquiesced to her request and agreed to reschedule the speech after the shutdown had ended, CNN reports.
