The People Magazine has named singer, John Legend as the sexiest man alive for 2019, as he was honoured with the title on Tuesday while on NBC’s “The Voice.”
The Grammy and multiple award winner was handed his title by the 2017 Sexiest Man Alive, country singer and fellow coach at “The Voice” singing competition, Blake Shelton.
The country singer then handed John Legend some short shorts with bedazzled letters “EGOTSMA” to signify the singer’s many honours: an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony and now, Sexiest Man Alive.
John Legend who is the husband to Chrissy Teigen and a father to 3½-year-old daughter Luna and 18-month-old son Miles, receiving the award, said he was grateful for the title, but also said he was scared, as it comes with a lot of pressure, especially winning it a year after another Hollywood great, and ladies man, Idris Elba.
Speaking to People Magazine on being named the sexiest man alive, he said:
“I was excited, but I was a little scared at the same time because it’s a lot of pressure,”
“Everyone’s going to be picking me apart to see if I’m sexy enough to hold this title. I’m [also] following Idris Elba, which is not fair and is not nice to me!” he admitted to the Magazine.
John Legend who also shared stories about how he was influenced into doing music, revealed to People that his mother, Phyllis, was his biggest fan and influence, his motivator as she encouraged him to always take that opportunity whenever they present themselves, especially singing. He said:
“Whenever we had opportunities to sing in church or school, my mom would suggest that I do it,” he says. “She always encouraged me.”
He also spoke about his growing up and how his father Ronald and mother taught him to remain humble and kind, which has been what has been setting him apart from others, saying:
“My father taught me about character. He taught us by example. He always conducted himself with such grace and dignity,” he says.
“My parents always taught me that if you’re going to succeed in life, part of success is having humility. It’s a good way to live life, treating other people the way you want to be treated.”
“I’m so proud that I have a wife and two kids I’m so in love with and so connected to. I’m also so proud of my career,” he says. “I love writing songs and performing on stage. I get a lot of joy from it and give a lot of joy to other people. I’m pretty at ease with myself now!”, he told the Magazine.
