Barcelona and Argentine forward, Lionel Messi has been named The FIFA’s Best Player for the year 2019. The Barcelona’s captain and football magician beat the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Liverpool’s Van Dijk to clinch the award.
Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo, unlike the UEFA award where he was present, and did not win, did not show up to the FIFA’s Best Player Awards ceremony which took place in Milan on Monday 23rd September 2019.
A lot of fans especially those from England (Liverpool fans) were tipping Dutch central, Van Dijk to win the FIFA’s best award after taking home the UEFA best player for helping his team win the UEFA Champions, but Messi ended up winning the award, after a long wait.
Leo Messi was second in the first two years and was not on the podium last year. Now, in Milan, he wins it ahead of of his closest rival, Ronaldo.
