Barcelona has confirmed the loan move of Brazilian attacking midfielder, Philippe Coutinho to Bayern Munich, a move which could see the German champions sign the player for €120million next season.
La Liga Champions, Barcelona in a statement released on Monday 19th August 2019, thanked Philippe Coutinho for his time with them, and for his move to Germany. The statement from Barcelona reads:
“Barcelona would like to publicly thank Philippe Coutinho for his commitment and dedication and wish him all the best in this new stage of his career,” they stated.
Philippe Coutinho departs the Camp Nou after playing 75 matches, with 21 goals and 11 assists, in his 18-months with them, after the big-money move from Liverpool.
Bayern Munich already presented Philippe Coutinho as reported by Marca, as their new signing, as he spoke of his excitement at moving to the German champions. This was his statement on arriving the club:
“The whole club showed great interest in me and put a lot of effort into the transfer,” he said at his presentation.
“I am happy to play for such a big club.
“It means a lot to have so much trust put in you.
“I hope I can stay here for a long time and win lots of trophies.” he said.
The 27-year-old has inherited the No.10 shirt from Arjen Robben, who gave his blessing to the Brazilian taking the number after Bayern Munich initially planned not to use it this season.
“The coach will decide where I play, but my favourite position is the No.10 role,” Coutinho said, calling for a position to match his new jersey.”
He also revealed that some of his friends had recommended the club to him.
“I have also spoken to Thiago, Rafinha and Lucio about Bayern Munich and they had only positive things to say,” Philippe Coutinho stated.
