The Oyo State Assembly members have elected a 32-year-old Debo Ogundoyin a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the new Speaker of the Oyo State 9th Assembly.

The new Speaker, Debo Ogunodyin is from Ibarapa East constituency, and was first elected into the Assembly in 2018 (about eight months ago) after the death of the speaker of the Assembly, Michael Adeyemo from Ibarapa East.

Olagunju Ojo from Oriire constituency in Ogbomoso was consequently elected as the speaker after Adeyemo’s demise.

Debo Ogunodying graduated from Babcock University and a son of the late industrialist, Adeseun Ogundoyin from Eruwa, Ibarapa area of the state.

The ninth Assembly is dominated by the Peoples Democratic Party with 26 out of the 32 members.
The Governor, Governor Seyi Makinde who was on ground to witness the historic moment, called on other members of the Assembly to work together with the newly elected Speaker to ensure in the interest of the good people of Oyo State. He said:

“Hearty congratulations to the newly elected Honourable Speaker, Debo Ogundoyin and Deputy Speaker, Mohammed Fadeyi of the Oyo State House of Assembly. I wish you a successful tenure. Our administration will respect the autonomy of the legislature.

At the inauguration of the Ninth Assembly of Oyo State, I implored the newly-sworn-in members to work collaboratively with the executive arm of government, putting the interests of the good people of Oyo State who elected us, first”
