The remains of Oba Mufutau Olatunji Hamzat of Afowowa Sogade in Ogun State was laid to rest on Monday morning.
Oba Mufutau Olatunji Hamzat whose passing was announced on Sunday 12th May 2019, was buried at his Yaya Abatan Ogba residence in Lagos on Monday.
Those that attended the Fidau at the home of the late Oba Mufutau Olatunji Hamzat in Ogba Lagos, were the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Leader, Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Lagos State Governor-elect, Sanwo-Olu and his son who is also the Lagos State Deputy Governor-elect, Dr Obafemi Hamzat and other notable politicians from the South-West.
Lagos State Governor-elect, Mr Sanwo-Olu who was there to pay his last respect, described the passing of the Oba as painful, as he condoles with the family, especially his Deputy, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat on the Olu of Afowowa. He said:
“A man is not measured by the life he lived, but by the lives, he touched while he was alive.
We are therefore thankful to the Almighty for the goodwill and the memorable achievements of our dear elder statesman, Oba Mufutau Olatunji Hamzat which will be visible in the lives of everyone he touched while he was with us.
May the Almighty grant him eternal rest, and comfort his loved ones. Amen,” he said.
Oba Olatunji Hamzat before is death, was the Olu of Afowowa Sogade in Ogun State. He was a member of the Lagos House of Assembly and Commissioner for Transportation from 1979-1983.
At the advent of the current democratic dispensation, he rose to become Vice-Chairman South-west of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) and later became the Lagos West Senatorial District leader of the Action Congress, an elder statesman in the Action Congress (AC). He remained the de facto leader of the Justice Forum, the second strongest political group within the APC in Lagos before his death.
