Three persons on Sunday sustained severe injuries in Anambra petrol tanker accident, as the petrol tanker which was said to be fully loaded lost control and crashed into a Lexus Jeep before falling into a nearby valley at Amawbia, Awka in Anambra State.
According to the report by NAN, that two of the injured persons were occupants of a Lexus Jeep while the third was the petrol tanker driver.
NAN reports that men of the Anambra Fire Service were battling to ensure that the spilt contents of the petrol tanker did not burst into flames.
Mr Andrew Kumapayi, Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety (FRSC) Anambra, who was at the scene of the Anambra petrol tanker accident, told reporters that the head of the tanker detached from the container and fell into a deep valley beside Udoka Estate.
Kumapayi said the wounded had been rushed to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH) for treatment by FRSC rescue team who arrived almost immediately.
He said the vehicles involved were the petrol tanker and a Lexus jeep all on the Enugu bound lane of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway.
The sector commander blamed the Anambra petrol tanker accident on over speeding.
Kumapayi, who expressed worry over the attitude of heavy-duty truck drivers after the Anambra petrol tanker accident , warned motorist to exercise utmost care on the road in the interest of all.
NAN reports that FRSC in the state joined other commands in the country to mark the end of United Nations Global Road Safety Week, with a church thanksgiving.
