English Premier League sides of Chelsea and Arsenal qualify for the Europa Cup Semifinals, after beating their opponents on Thursday night.
In the case of Arsenal, they continued their sweet run from the first leg of the quarterfinals at the Emirate Stadium, beating Napoli 0-1 in Italy. The only goal from that game, came from a superb free-kick from French man, Lacazett to give Unai Emery and Arsenal the hope of lifting a trophy this season.
Arsenal beat Napoli 0-3 on aggregate to qualify to the Europa Cup Semifinals and to now meet Valencia at the Semifinals. Valencia beats Villarreal 2-0 (5-1 on aggregate) to advance to the Semifinals of the competition.
Chelsea is the other English team going into the Europa Cup Semifinals, as four English teams for the first time in 35-years are making it into the UEFA competition after Liverpool and Spurs made it through to the Champions League Semifinals. But Chelsea’s qualification did not come cheap though, as they were dragged hard at home by Slavia Praha in a seven-goal thriller to qualify.
Sevcik scored a brace after Tomas Soucek beautiful headed beating Kepa to give Slavia Praha hope of something that did not happen at the end of the day. Chelsea goals came from Pedro, who scored a brace, Olivier Giroud netting his 10th goal of the competition, and an own-goal from Slavia Praha defender, Deli.
Chelsea although nearly missed their qualification, after the second half threats from Slavia, but they managed to see off the game, winning 4-3 and 5-3 on aggregate to advance and will be taking on Frankfurt at the Semifinals.
