Governor Nyesome Wike bans all forms of public protests in Rivers State with immediate effect and till further notice.
The Governor who made this announcement through one of his media aides Emma Okah said, the security agencies have been directed to enforce the ban in the interest of public peace and order.
Although Governor Wike did not explain the reasons behind this announcement, but given the situation in the State with respect to the ongoing Governorship election, with the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC yet to conclude it’s job, it is understandable why such ban has been imposed.
Wike bans public protests a few hours after inuagurating a Judicial Commission of Inquiry to look into the killings and violence during the general elections. His statement on the protest ban reads:
