President Muhammadu Buhari has commiserated with the victims and people of Anambra state over the tanker accident in Onitsha that claimed many lives on Wednesday.
President Buhari in his message released on Thursday to the victims of the tanker accident in Onitsha, prayed that God Almighty comfort
the bereaved and grant the injured a quick recovery. He said:
“I commiserate with the families of those who lost their lives in the tanker accident in Onitsha, yesterday. Condolences also to the government and people of Anambra State. I pray that the Almighty God will comfort the bereaved and grant quick recovery to the injured”.he said.
According to reports, the sad incident occurred around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13, at the ever busy Upper Iweka Road, Onitsha Anambra State, as the said tanker was said to have failed a break, and in the process, claiming at least seven persons, leaving 14 others with various degrees of injuries.
The tanker was ladened with 33,000 litres of kerosene, as authorities said that the casualty figure would have been higher, if government did not ban hawking and street trading in the area, and if it were to have been petroleum product.
The Governor of the state, Governor Willie Obiano had directed that the survivors be given the best medical attention with a promise that government would foot the bill, while also setting up an investigative committee to investigate the accident.
