According to the report by News Agency, Okocha is being dragged before the court by the Lagos State Ministry of Justice for failure to submit returns of his personal income tax, which is a thing we normally hear in Spain and their footballers and managers and likes.
The NAN report also suggested that the complaint on Okocha was filed on 6 June 2017.
When the case came up for the first time on October 5, 2017 Okocha failed to appear in court.
Okocha equally failed to appear after several adjournments were granted to enable him to do do.
The frustrated prosecutor urged the court to issue a bench warrant for his arrest.
Justice Adedayo Akintoye of the High Court in Igbosere, on Jan. 29 issued a bench warrant for Okocha’s arrest and adjourned proceedings until February 19.
Okocha still failed to show up on Tuesday. And he has avoided arrest.
Justice Akintoye adjourned the case till April 15,2019 for the execution of the bench warrant and Jay Jay.
A good example of a case like this, is the recent case of Cristiano Ronaldo’s tax fraud case in Spain, and also former Chelsea and Manchester United coach, Jose Mourinho…they opted for a fine in order not to serve a prison sentence.
Now my take is, if this story is true, and he has failed to appear, then he should be arrested. I mean Ronaldo and Jose Mourinho were made to be accountable for their illegal actions against the Government even with all their money and connections, this should not be any different…we must start from somewhere to make Nigeria a better place…
