President Donald Trump a few hours ago has finally made good his threat, as he declares National Emergency in order for him to fund his US-Mexico southern border wall without congressional approval, after weeks of a failed negotiation with Congress.
The National Emergency declaration by President Trump did not come as a surprise to many, as he has previously spoken about the possibility of him using his powers to declare National Emergency should the talks with Congress breaks down.
The President when asked then during the longest Government shutdown in US history which was about 35-Days he said it is something he has never thought of, and now that the reporters have brought that to his knowledge, he will be looking at such possibility of declaring an National emergency and build the Southern Wall…I am guessing after a long wait, and failure to negotiate a deal with Congress, he has opted for the back door looking for a quick fix, that could result to his impeachment!
According to the report by Rollingstone, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) relayed the news Thursday afternoon, telling colleagues on the Senate floor that while the president would agree to a spending bill that includes $1.375 billion for border fencing, he will also invoke his executive privilege to siphon funding from other government programs so that construction can begin on the most expensive vanity project in American history.
Nancy Pelosi, the Democratic speaker of the House of Representatives, and top Senate Democrat Chuck Schumer swiftly responded to Trump’s declaration. she said:
“If the president can declare an emergency on something that he has created as an emergency, an illusion that he wants to convey, just think what a president with different values can present to the American people,” she said.
“You want to talk about a national emergency? Let’s talk about today, the one-year of the manifestation of gun violence in America. That’s a national emergency. Why don’t you declare that an emergency? I wish you would. But a Democratic president can do that. A Democratic president can declare emergencies, as well. The precedent that the president is setting here is something that should be met with great unease and dismay by the Republicans.”
