Jubilation in Lagos Police command today as Police Officers of the command react to Commissioner of Police Imohimi Edgal saying he remains the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, (Lagos CP) after receiving a call from Abuja.
Edgal made this confirmation at the Command Headquarters, Ikeja GRA, saying he received a call from Police Headquarters in Abuja that there is no change of Guard in Lagos Police Command.
After receiving the call Lagos CP, Edgal went upstairs where the Divisional Police Officers (DPO) converged to notify them of the “good news.”
Ex-Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris had a few days ago, announced the immediate redeployment of Imohimi Edgal to the Force headquarters in Abuja, and replaced by Kayode Egbetokun.
As we reported a few days ago Egbetokun who was a former Chief Security Officer to the National leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chief Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, already resumed at his new post as Lagos CP, before the sudden change today.
Edgal who confirmed his status as Lagos CP, said:
“I am sure that you know Mr Kayode Egbetokun, he is an old timer in the command. You all know that our first job is about to order and direction. We were about concluding the handing and taking over procedure when we were instructed by our bosses from Abuja to suspend action for now. So, there will be no change of guard for now. Of course, we would keep the press briefed about any development. But I am happy, humbled that you find it serious enough for you all to come to witness what we are doing here. I consider it an honour.” he said
Also, the car of the Acting Commissioner of Police designates, Kayode Egbetokun was parked at CP’s place while Edgar’s car was parked at another place.
Immediately, after the announcement, Egbetokun’s car was removed and Edgar’s replaced it.
…what we do not know though is if the move was due to the public kicking against the change as Edgar in his last few months as CP has done well, or because of Egbetokun alleged ties with Tinubu which the opposition kicked against…which ever one, Lagosians are happy that Edgar is staying…
