As part of efforts to guarantee the safety of consumers in Lagos State from all forms of unwholesome products, the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has continued to ensure that expired products are removed from shelves of supermarkets across the State.

In a routine monitoring exercise by the Agency on Wednesday, expired products were removed from the shelves of some multi-chain stores in Magodo G.R.A and along Mobolaji Johnson Way, Alausa, Ikeja.

According to the General Manager of LASCOPA, Mrs Kemi Olugbode, the monitoring team discovered some expired products on the shelves of those supermarkets during the exercise and immediately removed them for destruction to prevent eventual sales to unsuspecting consumers.

She said that compliance notices had earlier been issued pursuant to the provision of section 4(a) of the Consumer Protection Agency Law with a view to preventing the marketing of goods which are hazardous to life.

Olugbode lamented that the LASCOPA had observed that some traders in the local markets, shops, retail outlets, supermarkets and even some multi-chain stores are taking advantage of the festive period to sell unwholesome products at ridiculously low prices to consumers.

According to her, “LASCOPA will not relent in the actualisation of its mandate to ensure that consumers in Lagos State are protected and get value for their money. But the consumers must develop a culture of patiently checking the details on every product, particularly consumables before making purchases”.

The General Manager, therefore, urged Lagosians not to hesitate to forward their complaints to the Agency on any unwholesome product found displayed for sale in any shop.
