The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Governor Udom Emmanuel has pointed accusing fingers at former Governor of the State, and his now estranged political godfather, Senator Akpabio as the mastermind of the political crisis in the State, most recent being that of the failed attempt by the Senator to impeach him as Governor, using five members of the State Assembly.
Governor Udom Emmanuel who was reacting to the alleged move by five suspended APC members, and loyalist of Senator Akpabio to impeach the House Speaker, Oniofiok Luke, and then himself as Governor, accused Senator Akpabio, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Nigerian Police Force as those trying to disrupt the peace in the State, by creating political tension, in order to achieve their selfish aim. He said:
“The mastermind of this crises include people that this state gave the opportunity to become what they never dreamt they could become. People that other people gave the opportunity to become a commissioner for 6 years & a Governor for 8 years making it 14 years.”
Stating further, he said:
“I want to let the world know that Nigerians fought & gave their lives in this country for us to enjoy the democracy we currently have today, but due to the ambition of selfish people, our democracy is being threatened in Akwa Ibom State.
Just recently the Excess Crude Account that was kept by our own people has been used to acquire military weapons, so those weapons will be used to intimidate Akwa Ibom People.” he said.
Governor Udom Emmanuel then took a swipe at the Nigerian Police, saying the Nigerian Police Force now belong to a particular political party. He said:
“This is the first time where the entire Nigerian Police Force structure belongs to a Political Party, but since we don’t have the police, we don’t have anything apart from God and Our People.
Akwa Ibom is the most peaceful state in our country, Nigeria. We maintain all oil installations so that money could be gotten out of here and be sent to Abuja for peace to be maintained.
It is the same Nigerian Police Force supervised by the Commissioner for police, who came in against the Court of law today.”
“For the Commissioner that the Nigerian Police just posted last weekend, let’s assume that he has finished his course. I call on Nigerian Police, the police commissioner and the head of the QRS must be withdrawn so that we can maintain peace in Akwa Ibom.” He said.
