The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has a few hours ago, released a statement disowning the purported leaked audio of Ex-Governor of Ekiti State Mr. Ayodele Fayose being interrogated and allegedly being told by Mr. Magu that nothing will happen peradventure he dies in their custody.
The anti-graft Commission called the leaked audio released by an online news media as fake and work done by mischief makers to discredit and distract the commission from the good work they have been doing. The statement reads:
“The EFCC alerts the public of an audio recording currently circulating in the social media in which Acting EFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Magu, purportedly made comments to effect that nothing will happen peradventure Ayo Fayose, ex-Ekiti governor dies in custody.”
“Interestingly, the audio tape did not disclose the place where the conversation occurred and the person that Magu was supposedly talking to.”
“Members of the public are advised to disregard this disingenuous creation an handiwork of mischief makers intent on distracting the EFCC from the serious work of wrapping up the investigation into the corruption allegations against Fayose.”
“The audio recording is fake as the comments did not emanate from the Chairman of the EFCC.
Purveyors of this fake news especially a former spokesperson of a leading political party are warned to desist.”
The Ex-Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose is being alleged to have been taken into custody to explain how he spent N1.3bn he allegedly received from the Office of the National Security Adviser(NSA) Dasuki. The former Governor was said to be received the money through a former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, during the build-up to the 2014 governorship election in Ekiti State, in which he won.
He is also being charged for other alleged crimes during his first tenure as Governor of Ekiti State, alongside others.
