APC Governors a few hours ago held a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, after cancellation, violence, and some states having two or more candidates emerging as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates/flag-bearers for the 2019 elections.
The Governors from the photos released by the Presidency of the Governors at the State House with President saw Governors of Imo, Zamfara, Ogun, Plateau, Ondo, Kebbi, Niger, Oyo and Nasarawa States with President Buhari.
These States have one issue or the other, after the party primaries in their states. The likes of Imo, Zamfara, Rivers and Ogun are a special case and even Oyo State.
Although the APC Primaries in some areas were marred irregularities, some were done peacefully and results which were announced were said to have allegedly reflected the wishes of the majority of party members, especially those states that adopted a direct primaries and consensus candidates.
Rivers State, which is a key State for any political party in Nigeria, saw also two different Governorship primaries, with two candidates emerging as flag-bearers for the party.
The Minister of Transportation Hon. Rotimi Amaechi led-faction of the APC adopted the indirect primaries and produced Nigerian billionaire businessman and co-founder of the Sahara Group, Mr. Tonye Cole as their flag-bearer, and the faction led by Senator Magnus Abe which adopted direct primaries saw himself winning and picking up the ticket to fly the flag of the party for the Governorship election in 2019.
Ogun State also had the Governor’s anointed candidate announced as the winner of the Governorship primaries, as against the result announced by the National Working Committee from the primaries allegedly conducted on Tuesday.
The situation was no different in Imo, Ogun, and Zamfara, as the President and APC National Leadership are looking for a possible way to bring all aggrieved members especially the Governors to one page before the 2019 elections.
