Direct primary for the Presidential aspirants for the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been moved again to a new date, just a few days after the party announced a new date.

The party in a statement released by it’s Acting National Publicity Secretary Mr. Yekini Nabena said
APC has shifted it’s presidential direct primary election earlier scheduled for Tuesday, September 25th, to Thursday, September 27th, 2018.

The party which might have taken this decision based on the fact that the President is out of the country. The new date also falls same day the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has picked 27th September 2018 for the all important Governorship rerun for Osun state. Though the party did not state or give reasons, given the outcome of the election on Saturday, the party will need to be on the ground and monitor the election.

The party called on all duly registered party members to collect their permanent membership cards from their respective wards.

Last week, the organizing secretary Emma Ibediro announced a revised timetable for the conduct of all the party’s primaries ahead of February 2019 general elections, as approved by the National Working Committee.

The 2018 primaries would be held as follows:

Governorship Primaries – September 29, 2018.

House of Representatives Primaries – October 3, 2018.

State House of Assembly Primaries – October 4, 2018.

Presidential National Convention – October 6, 2018

“The presidential direct primary election earlier scheduled for Tuesday, September 25th, 2018 will now hold on Thursday, Sept. 27th, 2018. Duly registered party members are to collect their permanent membership cards from their respective wards”

President Muhammadu Buhari is likely to be the sole Presidential aspirant for the direct primary as he has already been endorsed by other party members for the automatic ticket to fly the party flag come 2019 Presidential election.

While the President has been given the nod for a direct primary, all other state Governors and party members at the state levels under the APC are still struggling and battling one another especially with the Governors of the states for direct primaries.

While a majority are asking for direct primaries, the Governor’s have all adopted indirect primaries for their own personal reasons.
