Osun State Governorship election is still ongoing, as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in a fresh statement warns that anybody caught announcing fake and unofficial results from the Osun State Gubernatorial election, will be risking a prison sentence.

The electoral umpire who before and during the Osun State election, has consistently warned on the various likely electoral offences, said the act of publishing results that are not officially released and announced by the Commission [INEC] is a crime that is punishable by a term of imprisonment.

The Osun State INEC office was credited with this latest information, as both the state and National Office in Abuja have all warned on vote buying and selling, the use of mobile phones at the polling booths, amongst other things.

The State released as regarding the ongoing Governorship election in Osun State, states:

Warning!!!
Announcing or Publishing a false election result is an offence. It’s a criminal offence punishable by a term of imprisonment.

The official #OsunDecides2018 results will be uploaded on our platforms as declared by the Returning Officer.

This was the statement published on the social media handle of INEC a few hours ago, and both the Nigerian Police and other security agencies are working to make sure the election is peaceful and free and fair.

INEC also cleared the air on the ban of mobile phones and electronic devices at the polling booths. The Commission had put out this statement on the issue to dispel the rumour that INEC was trying to rig the election in favour of the ruling party.

“This is to remind us that INEC has not completely banned the use of mobile phones at the Polling Unit but at the Polling Booth. We can use the INEC eReporter App report incidences or any mis-conduct from the field during the #OsunDecides2018 election”
