Yusuf Bichi’ appointment as the new Director General of the Directorate of Secret Service (DSS) by President Muhammadu Buhari has been faulted by Senator Ben Murray-Bruce.
Senator Ben Murra-Bruce who on hearing the announcement of the Mr. Yusuf Bichi as the new DG of DSS, took to his social media page to fault the appointment. He said, while Yusuf Bichi may be competent, it would have been good if the President had allowed the Acting DG Mr. Seiyefa to continue as the DG of the intelligence agency.
The Senator arguing his point further, said Mr. Seiyefa being the only Southern heading an Intelligence agency, and someone who is competent and loyal, it would have been nice if President Muhammadu had followed the principle of the federal character and also the North-South balance and appoint Mr. Seiyefa to the position, since he was already acting as DG of the organization.
He said:
“Seiyefa was the ONLY Southerner heading an Intelligence agency. He was competent and loyal. In the interest of federal character and North South balance, President Muhammadu Buhari should have retained him. Bichi may be competent, but how can all Intelligence be headed by Northerners?”
Senator Ben Murray-Bruce is from Bayelsa State, so also is Mr. Seiyefa. So, in away, we can understand the sentiment behind his satement.
Looking at the Senator’s statement, it is funny how he used ‘COMPETENT’ and agreeing that both Yusuf Bichi and Seiyefa possessed this, but still went ahead to play the North-South card and the issue of federal character when it appears not to favour him…
I think what should matter here is competence, and not the tribe, state or region…and since he has agreed that the new DG is competent, that answers his question, as every other issues raised are mere politics!
